The earliest known pantomime in the U.S. was

Robinson Crusoe produced at St. John's Theatre, New York in 1786.

A production at Olympic Theatre in New York of Humpty Dumpty ran for over 1,200 performances in 1868, becoming one of the most successful American pantomimes.

In 1993 there was a production of Cinderella at the UCLA Freud Theatre, starring Zsa Zsa Gabor as the Fairy Godmother. The production received mixed reviews. This production was a typically British  production with writer-director Nigel Miles-Thomas taking the perennial panto story of Cinderella  and her Prince Charming and spiced it up with a cast of characters that includes a pair of juggling, wisecracking nasty stepsisters called Thelma and Louise. There was an attempt to Americanize the humour, but it was more distracting than amusing and did not seem to work. Songs by Harry Warren, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and others were sprinkled throughout. As the Fairy Godmother, Gabor was the only miked actor onstage and she managed to fluff nearly every line except the jokes that referred winkingly to her own run-ins with the law. One such quip alluded to the 1990 incident in which the actress slapped a Beverly Hills police officer, and a couple were nods to Gabor's protracted civil court battle with actress Elke Sommer, who sued her for defamation and won a $3.3-million judgment against Gabor.

Lythgoe Family Productions has produced pantomimes each winter since 2010 in California. Their first production was Cinderella in North Hollywood, starring Jerry Mathers and Freddie Stroma. This was followed in 2011 by A Snow White Christmas, starring Marina Sirtis as The Wicked Queen and Neil Patrick Harris as The Magic Mirror, and A Cinderella Christmas, starring Fred Willard as Baron Hardup, Cinderella's father. In 2012, the company mounted A Snow White Christmas at the Pasadena Playhouse, starring Ariana Grande as Snow WhiteCharlene Tilton as The Wicked Queen and Neil Patrick Harris again as The Magic Mirror.

Christmas pantomimes are performed yearly at the Hudson Village Theatre in Quebec. Since 1996, Ross Petty Productions has staged pantomimes at Toronto's Elgin Theatre each Christmas season. Pantomimes imported from England were produced at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in the 1980s.

The White Rock Players Club in White Rock, BC have presented an annual pantomime in the Christmas season since 1954. The Royal Canadian Theatre Company produces pantomimes in British Columbia, written by Ellie King

The National Pantomime of Jamaica was started in 1941 with a British inspired production of

Jack and the Beanstalk by educators Henry Fowler and Greta Fowler, pioneers of the

Little Theatre Movement in Jamaica.

Among the first players was Louise Bennett-Coverley. Other notable players have included

Oliver SamuelsCharles HyattWillard WhiteRita Marley and Dawn Penn.

The annual pantomime  always opens on Boxing Day (as was once the tradition in England) at the Little Theatre

iKingston and is now strongly influenced by aspects of Jamaican culture, folklore and history. The indigenization

of panto in this country owes much to two legends of Jamaican theatre - Louise Bennett -Coverley and the

Ranny Williams who were among the pioneers of the LTM and who did much to mould the annual show into a unique

creation, which features aspects of Jamaican culture. The Pantomime prides itself on its universal appeal to children

and adults alike. In so doing the Pantomime has utilised some of Jamaica's leading talent in every area of production,

from script writing to music composition, set and costume design, choreography as well as on-stage performance.

The members of the Pantomime Company are called upon to learn various skills.

The LTM Pantomime cast lists read as a who's who in Jamaican visual and performing arts. Undoubtedly, the most well known

names are Louise Bennett-Coverley and Ranny Williams, who both served as authors as well as performers. The list of famed performers include Oliver Samuels, Leonie Forbes, Lois Kelly-Miller, Charles Hyatt, Volier Johnson, Willard White, Rita Marley, Dawn Penn and others.

Due to the size of the spaces in which theatre is normally performed in Jamaica, theatre goers have become used to the "one room" set. The Pantomime, with the luxury of being performed on a larger stage (the Ward Theatre and the Little Theatre) with adequate backstage space and fly towers has been able to bring to life a variety of locations from rural and urban Jamaica to the moon.

With the creative use of flats, backdrops and platform units the set designers challenge the stage manager and the backstage crew to move seamlessly from one setting to another as a show progresses. Some of the talent who have designed sets for the Pantomime over the years include Karl Abrahams, Albert Huie, Colin Garland, Lorna Goodison and Henry Muttoo. In the more recent years designers for sets and props have included Denise Forbes, Symonne Coombs, Larry Watson and Michael Lorde.

Costumes have become an integral part of the visual element of the Pantomime. The use of clothing to effectively define characters on stage expressing their themes and motives to an audience which includes very young children is vital to the Pantomime. Costume designers for the pantomime have included Patrick Waldemar, Norman Russell, Eddy Thomas, Henry Muttoo, Angela Waterlow and Anya Gloudon.

CAIRO – 23 January 2018: The pantomime show “In the Garden” will stage Sunday at

Wanas Center for Arts and Culture.

A collaboration between Naas group for cultural development and Wanas Center, the pantomime show

“In the Garden” is a new hilarious comedy show about solitude and pain, performed by

mime artist Mustafa Huzayen.

Huzayen is an Egyptian actor, director and a mime performer. He has taken long term training with

many mime experts from different schools; he won many prizes at different theater and mime festivals in Cairo,

including El-Sawy Cultural Wheel Mime Festival, and the National Theater Festival.

He founded his own mime company, Mime Features, and gavemany performances on numerousstages in Egypt and Europe.
In 2004, he founded his Mime & Pantomime troupe,Malameh, that performed its first show in 2005.

Among Malameh'ssuccessful Pantomime performances are “SaherWi Mohareg WiAa’lametEstefham” (A Magician, Clown, and Question Mark), and “YoumA'ssefGedan” (A Very Stormy Day).

Mime, pantomime, or silent acting, is based on the body movements and signs that the actor performs on stage. It includes numerous forms that vary. In India, mime is combined with music and dance.

The inspiration behind mime comes from reality, tackling universal issues in fictional plots. In the postmodern era, mime was presented through masks, black and white face painting, or clothing, inspiring a number of mime crews to promote their stage names, such as Oreo, The Story of the Mask and Gray Team
